Mayo County Library presents In Humbert's Footsteps an exhibition to commemorate the 210 anniversary of the 1798 rebellion. It contains over 40 unique artefacts mostly family heirlooms most of which have heretofore never been exhibited. These include a bayonet and coin from French-Hill that were last exhibited in 1948, pike heads from the four provinces of Ireland; French buttons from Ballina which figure prominently in the local folklore; a French sword, also from Ballina, which was discovered near Bearna Dearg on one of the French approaches to the town; a rare commemorative lady’s head-scarf bearing the motif "Who Fears To Speak of ‘98", equally rare French and British newspapers, a cannon ball from Killala; an elegantly carved Celtic Cross which was fashioned from the wood of the infamous "Hanging Tree" in Castlebar. Exhibition is free to all. Classes should book in advance at 096 70833
