Fr. Kiernan Waldron, Parish Priest of Killererin, Tuam, will give a lecture on one of the sixteen archbishops whose lives he has studied, Archbishop T. P. Gilmartin (1918-39).

James Monaghan has recently published his account of his time as a prisoner in the Colombian jail system. His book, entitled Colombia Jail Journal will be launched in Castlebar library with the author in attendance

February 4th - March 1st 2008. : Burma - Forgotten Nation, Forgotten People: exhibition of photographs by Burma Action Ireland - Ballina Library
An exhibition of 40 photographs taken by Cork photographer Philip Daly and toured in Ireland by Burma Action Ireland in support of the people of Burma.
As part of the launch of the 'Bad Winds' photography Exhibition, Andy Wilson, editor of Sustainability Journal will give a presentation on the phenomena of global warming and the implications for Ireland. The presentation will be followed by an open debate in which the audience will have an opportunity to express their views.

The Ordnance Survey of Ireland has introduced an online service Ireland’s Historical Mapping Archive which provides access to a collection of maps which will be of great interest to local historians, schools and the general public. Kevin Brady of the Ordnance Survey will give an illustrated talk on the service in Castlebar Library.

Want to Solve a Mystery this Summer?
If you are aged between 6 - 16 years and enjoy reading, come in to Ballyhaunis Library and sign up for our Summer Reading Club. This year's theme is 'Mystery'.
Throughout the months of July and August, children will be asked to read 10 books by 10 different authors - and all the books will be mysteries.
Thursday July 24th, 2008: Spring Onion Theatre presents Androcles and The Lion - Crossmolina Public Library
A puppet theatre performance that has delighted family audiences in Ireland and abroad comes to Crossmolina Public Library for 2 performances only.
An information evening will be held in Ballina Library about the Karen- Burmese refugees who have recently come to live in the area and on how the local community can help. Speakers will include Gerry Mulherin, a refugee support worker with Meitheal Mhaigh Eo and a number of the Karen refugees will speak on their lives in Burma and about adjusting to life in Ireland.
Mayo County Council Arts Office and Mayo County Library are delighted to present a double-reading by Argentinian writers Gerardo Gambolini and Jorge Fondebrider. This is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear two giants of contemporary South American literature read in the centre of Castlebar.

Choose Life, Reach Out, a suicide awareness & mental forum, are hosting an art sale to raise funds for their work. Paintings have been donated by professional and amateur artists who wish to help out this worthy fundraiser and Harry Feeney of TG4's 'Relax with Watercolours' will paint a picture as part of the proceedings on the night.
