Have you ever admired the photographs used as a backdrop to the RTE Weather? Ever wondered who took them, or what part of the country they feature? The RTÉ Weather Photo Exhibition will give you a chance to satisfy your curiosity, and to view some amazing amateur photographs of Ireland's most wild and beautiful places.

Nov 7th - Dec 31st 2007: In Safe Hands Bowl Exhibit - Ballina Library

Mayo Women's Support Services launched In Safe Hands Bowl exhibit in Ballina Library on the 27th of November 2007.  Mayo Women’s Support Services are celebrating 10 years of working in the community, and as part of their continued celebration to mark their joint ten year anniversary with Mayo Rape Crisis Centre, they commissioned a creative project involving the casting of hands to form a bowl symbolising the shared experience of women using the services. This year also marks the 17th year of the global 16 Days of Action Opposing Violence against Women and the exhibit will be part of this year's action.

December 7th, 2007: Luisne Project Art Exhibition - Ballinrobe Library

Cranmore Centre Ballinrobe are launching an art exhibition called the Luisne Project.  The exhibition will comprise 14 pieces of work produced by participants in the Cranmore Centre. The organizers extend a warm welcome to all to visit and view this exciting new exhibition.

An exhibition of 40 photographs taken by Cork photographer Philip Daly and toured in Ireland by Burma Action Ireland in support of the people of Burma.

November 26th, 2007: Mick Flavin opens new Music Department - Castlebar Library

Country singing legend Mick Flavin will pay a surprise visit to Castlebar to open a new music department in Castlebar library.  Mick, the man they call the King of Country, has been entertaining audiences for fifteen years. In those fifteen years he has developed a unique relationship with his audience and has had numerous hit albums including The Old School Yard.

November 14th, 2007: Ready Set Bio! Small Science, Big Ideas - Ballina Library

Did you know that our body is made up of cells? That genes (not jeans!) decide what we will look like? That bacteria lived on earth long before dinosaurs?!

Ready Set Bio! is an exciting new primary science programme which introduces a hands on approach to teaching science in the classroom. Developed by REMEDI, especially for the primary school sector, this programme supports the 4th – 6th class primary science curriculum and is both interactive and fun.

November 10th, 2007: Anyone for Science: Chemistry Show - Castlebar Library

The Chemistry Show will consist of fun hands-on educational activities, and will be presented in a highly enjoyable and interesting way.   The show, facilitated by Christine Campbell, will present a number of demonstrations including how to make your eggs hover or how could a bowling ball float?

27th September, 2007: RTE Big Science Debate - Castlebar Library

The ethical questions raised by biological research and biomedicine, such as stem cell research, IVF, genetic modification and euthanasia are a major cause for concern as science continues to advance rapidly. Is human enhancement making people better or making better people? It is important that these issues are discussed and that the general public have an informed understanding on bioethical issues. In September RTÉ in association with The Irish Council for Bioethics (ICB) and Science Foundation Ireland, will launch RTÉ’s Big Science Debate; a nationwide road show, radio series and website.

12th June-31th August 2007: Creative Writing Course with Author Helen Falconer - Ballina Library

Author Helen Falconer, will facilitate an eight week creative writing course in Ballina Library. Helen will cover all aspects of creative writing: preparation, character, point of view, structure, action, dialogue, description, style and rewriting. Contact Ballina Library for full details.

Achill Library is hosting an Art Exhibition displaying a selection of work by local artists. It is an extremely interesting visual display and all pieces are available for purchase.

EMILE, early EMigrant LEtter stories was a project about the importance of the emigrant letters as a historical resource. The project focused on emigrant letters, written by emigrants to America, to people left behind in the old countries.
