“The rhythm of walking generates a kind of rhythm of thinking, and the passage through a landscape echoes or stimulates the passage through a series of thoughts.” Rebecca Solnit

Artist Charlotte Lavelle's practice is situated in connection with the Wild Atlantic Way and is inspired by the land forms, beauty, and ideas of the sublime. By walking in rural and coastal  areas, her work endeavours to expose the beauty and nature of place, exploring gestural and panoramic compositions. Through paint and mark making she looks at ways to represent landscape using scroll or canvas as a surface.

The processes Charlotte uses to document her work includes photography, sketching and paint. Materials used include ink, watercolour, acrylic and oil on paper and canvas.  These mediums convey a sense of space, creating a lyrical quality in her compositions through a joyful exploration of colour.

Coastal Photography is a series of coastal images representing a more minimal approach in the portrayal of the expansiveness of the Atlantic Ocean along the West coast of Ireland.
