This year as part of Culture Night 2014, Ballina Library in association with Ballina Arts Centre and The Jackie Clarke Collection will present ‘Scattered – The Irish finding their way abroad’.

At 8pm, Ultan Cowley, author of the bestselling book ‘The Men who built Britain – a History of the Irish Navvy’ will present his one man show ‘The Craic was good in Cricklewood : Songs and Stories of the Men Who Built Britain’’ in Ballina Library.

The show, a multimedia presentation, is a stirring blend of pictures, songs of the navvie’s heyday and anecdotes of life on site and in the pubs, bed-sits and dancehalls of Kilburn, Camden Town and anywhere the Irish congregated in Britain. The show has provoked an emotional response from audiences everywhere.

Ultan is son of John Cowley who play Tom Riordan in ‘The Riordans’. Further details about him and the show can be seen on

Admission is free and all are welcome
