No one chooses to be a refugee. This World Refugee Day, borrow a refugee book from your local library and show you care!

Every minute eight people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror. UNHCR helps those who are forced to flee to find safety, regain hope and rebuild their lives. The UN refugee agency leads and co-ordinates international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide.

UNHCR Ireland asks people to take one simple action to show support to refugees, asylum seekers and those in need of international protection here in Ireland and around the world. What we are asking you to do is to read one of the many brilliant refugee books on display in Castlebar Library and then to tell the world about it using Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and even good old fashioned word of mouth. Tell your friends and get them to Do 1 Thing too! A stand of books, written by or about refugees, will be displayed in Castlebar library for one week around World Refugee Day from Tuesday 19th June to Saturday 23rd June, so get reading and spread the word.
