Calling all poets to Ballina Library to celebrate All-Ireland Poetry Day with an Open Mic Poetry session.
Why is the art of poetry different from all other arts? Because every night at hundreds of poetry spots around the world there exists the phenomenon of the Open Mic. These sessions are a metaphor for freedom, an informal and extremely enjoyable evening of poetry. They’re a place where your art can be presented to the public at large (well, granted, the audience will also consist of other enthusiastic poets waiting their turn to get at the mic), without having to submit your work to an authorizing board, without having to present your CV or pay a registration fee and the only restriction is the time limit. All we ask is that the poets come along on the night, read from their own original work and enjoy the work of others. The public are more than welcome too!
