The sinking of the Titanic is one of the defining moments of maritime history. Crossmolina Library exhibits The Titanic Centenary Exhibition during the month of July and August. The Exhibition tells the tragic story of The Titanic and includes many photographs and illustrations of the ship from its building in the shipyards of Belfast to its sinking in the icy waters of the North Atlantic.

The exhibition demonstrates the ships splendor, luxury, comfort but also its vulnerability. It also focuses on on the reasons why the Titanic sank on its maiden voyage and what was learned from the sinking. A section of the exhibition is devoted to the fate of the fourteen people from Addergoole Parish who boarded the ship at Queenstown in Cork to travel to America. Photographs as well as reports from the local newspapers of the time are used to portray the impact of the tragedy in Mayo.

The Exhibition was compiled and produced by Mayo County Library and is supplemented by items from the Adderggoole Titanic Society.

Come along and see for yourself the tragedy that was the Titanic during library opening hours.
