Mayo Library's Postcard Collection

Postcards of Mayo

Welcome to Mayo County Library Historical Postcard Collection. This is a selection of postcards acquired from various sources over the years and provides a fascinating pictorial record of the towns of the county. The photographs generally range in date from the early to the mid 20th century, though in most cases an exact date cannot be determined. Some postcards are postmarked and the date of the postmark is included in the description, but of course this only indicates that the original photograph was taken sometime before that date. It is particularly interesting to see similar views of the same street taken at different times to note the differences e.g. more cars on the street, presence or absence of electricity or telephone wires, changes in shop names etc.

The collection has been grouped by area or town. Click on the links below to open the photo gallery for that place.
