History of the Bourke family of Turlough from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1945.

This section contains an outline of the history of the Bourke from 1450 when the De Burgos took up residence in Turlough as overlords of North Mayo. They adopted the title of MacWilliam Eighter. Various generations of the family are listed up to Colonel Walter Bourke, who lost the lands after the Battle of Aughrim  and left for France with the Wild Geese following the Treaty of Limerick.
