Natural features in Lacken parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1943
Lacken parish is located in the northeast corner of Mayo and according to the surveyor contains much beautiful scenery, particularly along the coast. The main features mentioned include Killala Bay, Lacken Strand and caves in the cliff face near the ruin of Castlenageehy. Also in this section of the survey, under the heading of "Mansions, Castles and Estates", there is a brief description of Castlelacken, once the home of Sir Charles Knox.
