Amenities and general information on Lacken parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1943
At the time of the survey there were no towns or villages worthy of mention in the parish of Lacken. Agriculture was the predominant economic activity along with fishing and the gathering of carrageen, kelp and crannach. The spinning whell was still widely used at the time. There were few amenities apart from dance halls at Killegeary and Ballygarry, the parish church at Lacken and national schools at Carrowmore, Creevagh, Banagher and Heathfield. The surveyor commented on the dilapidated state of some houses in Kilcummin and Rathlacken.
