Amenities and general information for Ballina from Irish Tourist Association Survey, Kilmoremoy parish, 1942
This section of the survey for the parish of Kilmoremoy describes the town of Ballina, population around 6,000, and lists the amenities under various headings including Public Services, Cinemas and Theatres, Libraries, Churches and Services, Banking, Swimming Pools, Industries and Handcrafts, Conveyances for Hire and Schools and Colleges. The main industries at the time were centred on flour and corn milling and sawmills. Supplementary sheets accompany the prescribed form and one of these is an excerpt from a letter written by the surveyor in which he apologises for describing the water supply as excellent in the original form. His original description was based on reports from locals, including Urban Councillors, but his experience subsequently led him to conclude that the water supply was "really very bad".
