Curiosities, customs and patterns in Kilmaine parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1945

Curiosities, customs, patterns.

“Curiosites” in Kilmaine parish include a windmill in Ardkill. The mill according to an inscription was built by Denis Browne in 1787. Also mentioned is a superstition attached to Kill Abbey. A pattern to “Tobar Ciaran” in Kilkeeran townland is described and there follows abrief listing of some local calendar customs and superstitions, which had largely died out by the time of the survey.
