Understandably, amenities in the village of Kilmaine were few in 1945. The population in was just 120 and the only amenities listed were the national schools, post office, dance hall and two churches – St. Patricks (Catholic) and Holy Trinity (Protestant). These are described under the heading of “Important public buildings”. The water supply from a pump is described as most unsatisfactory.
