Antiquities in Killedan parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1944
Antiquities described in the survey of Killedan parish, are as follows:
- Church ruins in Killedan graveyard. Mentioned by O’Donovan in the Ordnance Survey letters. He believed it to be called “Cill Liadáin” or Lydon, and that this was the origin of the name Killedan, not as is thought, “Cill Aodáin” as there is no tradition or history associating St. Aidan with the area.
- Collapsed dolmen in Killedan townland
- Cashel and souterrain in Cortoon townland.
- Some foundation stones of church in Kilkinure graveyard.
- Crannóg in Carrigeen Lake.
- Ruins of castle in Ballinamore. Said to have been built by the Jordan family.
- Two disused wells: one known as “Tobar na Cuimhne” or “well of Memory” near Kiltimagh anglers’ hatchery; the other in Carrowdangan townland.
