Antiquities in Kilcolman parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1945
Antiquities in Kilcolman parish are as follows:
Ballinasmaula Abbey:- ruins of church and a few other smaller buildings. The surveyor describes the architectural features of the ruins in considerable detail. There is not a lot known of the history of the abbey, but it was believed to have been founded for the Carmelites by the Prendergast (MacMorris) family.
Kilcolman church ruins:- Formerly the parish church. Tradition ascribes the founding of the parish to St. Colman.
Castle ruins in Murneen:- Said to have been a de Burgo castle, probably taken by them from the Prendergast(MacMorris) clan with whom they frequently fought.
Souterrsin beside St. Michael’s Convent.
