The survey of Kilbeagh parish was completed by Donal Faughnan in 1944. The areas of main interest in the survey are the sections on antiquities and local legends and customs. There is also an interesting note on the development of Charlestown and the accompanying decline in the fortunes of neighbouring Bellahy which was the market centre of the parish prior to the building of Charlestown,. This is reflected in the forms in the survey describing the amenities in Charlestown and Bellahy, with the former almost having a monopoly of the amenities.
