Mansions, castles and estates in Crossboyne and Tagheen parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1945

Several pages are devoted to this section of the survey of Crossboyne parish, all relating to Castlemacgarrett estate, property,at the time, of Lord Oranmore of the Browne family. The bulk of the material consists of a detailed account of the history of the Browne family. The property at Castlemacgarrett came into the family in the 16th century with the marriage of Geoffrey Browne to Mary Prendergast. Much of the history is from family tradition as the family papers were destroyed in a fire in Castlemacgarrett in 1811.
