First page of Irish Tourist Association Survey, Cong and The Neale, 1945

The Irish Tourist Asswociation Survey for Cong and The Neale was carried out in 1945 by Conor O'Brien. Unusually for a parish with no large town, this is one of the largest files in the survey. This is due mainly to the wealth of detail provided by the surveyor in the area of antiquities. For instance, there are several pages devoted to Cong Abbey alone. The landscape and geology of the area are also generously described. The file contains the original handwritten entries but also two copies in typescript form, which also makes this one of the more accessible to any user wishing to view the originals.

The headings for the survey are listed below. Clicking on the heading will open the relevant section in the survey.
