Description of historic sites, houses and famous historic personalities from Irish Tourist Association Survey for Ballintober and Burriscarra, 1945
There are numerous historic sites in the area associated with St. Patrick including Tochar Phadraig, holy wells and a church in Tower Hill. Under the heading of historic houses and burial places there is an account of Moore Hall and the history of the Moore family. In addition, there is information on the Viscounts Mayo , of whom Tibbot na Long of Castlebourke was the first, Colonel James McDonnell of Carrownacon who was prominent in the 1798 rebellion and finally, Seán na Sagart.
