Amenities in Belmullet parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1943

Belmullet town is described here as prosperous and thriving. Among the amenities listed are the following:

  • Two dance halls
  • Catholic churches at Belmullet and Glencastle and Church of Ireland church at Belmullet
  • Organisations: Catholic Young Men's Society, Connradh na Gaeilge and Belmullet Dramatic Society.
  • Industries: Lace schools (Knitting and crochet industries) at Chapel Street Belmullet and at Muings, Barnatra.
  • Public buildings: New hospital at Tallagh and new vocational school
  • Schools: Vocational school, Sisters of Mercy  secondary school, National schools Belmullet, Glencastle, Shraigh and Barnatra.
