Antiquities in Ballysakeery parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1943
The most notable antiquity in the parish of Ballysakeery is Rosserk Abbey. the convent was founded in 1460 on the site of the ancient oratory of Saint Searc. It was built for the Tertiaries of St. Francis by a member of the Joyce family. the ruin is in a remarkably good state of preservation.
The only other antiquity mentioned in the survey are the "faint vestiges" of a castle at Ballintain, near Mullaghfarry. Nothing is known about the origins or history of this castle.
