Amenities in Ballysakeery parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1943

Ballysakeery parish, located between Ballina and Killala had no towns or villages at the time of the survey in 1943. the Catholic church and schools were located at Cooneal and the Protestant and Presbyterian churches and schools at Mullaghfarry. The schools were named as Cooneal, Ballymachola, Newtownwhite, (Protestant) and Lisglennon, (Presbyterian). An interesting feature of the parish was that it contained no shop of any description. The only organisation mentioned was the Cooneal Dramatic Society.
