Amenities in Ballycastle parish, from Irish Tourist Association Survey, 1943
This section of the survey contains a brief description of Ballycastle village with interesting comments on water supply and sewage facilities. Other amenities include a dance-hall that also functioned as an occasional cinema, a public library, church two banks. Under the heading of industries there is mention of flax-scutching, a sawmill and corn mill. Use of the spinning-wheel was common in the area at the time. there were schools in Ballycastle (Sisters of Mercy), Kilbride, Killeen, Glenurla, Belderg and Glencalry.
