The Irish tourist Association survey for Ballinrobe parish was completed by Donal Faughnan in 1945. From a tourism point of view the main attractions in the parish at that time were angling on the three main waterways in the area, Lough Mask, Lough Carra and the Robe river and also a number of antiquities, descriptions of which constitute the most substantial section of the survey. Ballinrobe town is the only town in the parish and some of the comments in the "Amenities and general information" section of the survey provide interesting reading!
